Summer Learning

Dear Mum,

I have some good news, I am travelling to Canada in December 2016 and returning to New Zealand early January 2017.  Mum, the reason why I have chosen to visit Canada is, this time of the year it's winter season.  There is plenty of snow.  I have always wanted to spend Christmas in the snow.  But I will be packing plenty of warm woolly jumpers!  I am looking forward to making a big snowman, to.  I also will be sure to do some sight seeing at the Niagara Falls.  The largest waterfall in the world, also found in Canada.  I have always wanted to travel to Canada, Mum and besides visiting different sights and enjoying the snow I hope to see the Northern Lights.

I will miss everyone but, I will be home before you know it.  You are always welcome to come along if you want to, Mum?

From Liam.

Summer Learning

Canada
I choose Canada because it is the second largest continent in the world, and it is in the Northern Hemisphere.

The three interesting facts about Canada for me are, the weather.  The weather in Canada is very different and the seasons begin in different months through year.  Their summer begins in May and ends August, September.

Another interesting fact about Canada is, Niagara Falls.  Niagara Falls is located on the Niagara river and is found on the border between Canada and the United States.the

The third interesting fact is in part of Canada you can see the Northern Lights.

Battleships

L.I to investigate coordinates
Today I have been doing battleships for maths and this is what I have ended up with.

An-225 (cargo doors)

Cargo doors
Cargo doors are more useful for cargo planes and passenger planes around the globe but large cargo doors are only seen on large cargo plane in flight. The front nose cargo door of the An-225 is over 10 meters high and 6 meters long but at the back the cargo door there is nearly 15 meters high and nearly 7 meters long. The plane is able to fit a fighter jet, for example a Mikoyan mig 29 and another example a Airbus A380 but only in parts and not the fully built plane. The C-5 galaxy plane does the same but the cargo doors aren't as larger as the An-225’s cargo doors. The back cargo doors of the An-225 and the C-5 Galaxy have to be separated when opening but mostly at the front that cargo door has to go up and also block the cockpit at the top. But the pilots get contact from the controls to help them close the front cargo door. When the front cargo door is open the plane actually has to bend down by lowering down the wheels for something to come in for flight.

Main Idea summary frame

Text title: Flight (An-225)

I think the main idea of this text is to see how they work
One example of a supporting detail is that the An-225 is the largest plane in the world
Another example of a supporting detail is that the 737 is the most common plane in the world
It is clear that the main idea is to see how they work

Because we are working on our own planes.
Today I have done the main idea summary frame for inquiry and it is finally done.

Today I have decided to write another 3 blog comments and these are the people that I have done. I have done Magenta, Mataio and Sanujan, But the most thing about these three is that they have been working hard on their piece of work

Blog commenting

Today I have written 3 blog comments, one to Joshua W, one to Jericho and one to Jeremiah. I have read their piece of work and they have been working really hard.

L.I to understand flip, side and turn

Today I have been working on the LS1 Geometry and this is what I ended up with for my task. We had to pick this time 11 things and then measure them into how many faces it has, how many edges it has and how many vertices they have.

Rocket experiment

Today I have created a google drawing on our rocket experiment from yesterday. I have created a graph and on what we have made. But I couldn't add anymore because there wasn't much information from our rocket experiment. On the last slide you will see a link saying graph and that will take you to my graph that I have created.

Today I have desided to write down a old and famous aviator and I chose Charles lindbergh which he was the first to fly in a one engine powered plane.

Blog commenting

Today I have written 3 blog comments, One to Jeremiah, One to Jericho and one to Sanujan. Only two people made some mistakes which was Jeremiah and Jericho but I thought they did a good job on what they did for this week.

Report writing frame (Google)

Google is something to search up but it can show a lot of information for you. It can search up things that you don’t know like different words or different piece of information. Google is also good for some research like if you want to look for a ancient thing from a long time ago or if you want to research what it means. That is what google is, it is something you want to research or what you don’t know.
L.I to construct an information report

Today I have written a report writing frame on google and I have a good piece of information about google and what it does.

Inference sheet 2

L.I to identify features of an information text

Today I have been working on my Inference chart 2 and have did blast from the past for today. I have been working fast on this task and I have finally completed my second piece of reading.

Rocket launch experiment

Today we have been making our own rockets and launching them for inquiry. These two rockets were the ones that were fired. The foil rocket didn't launch because it looked too tight to launch. But the paper rocket made it about 9 or 8 feet which was farther than the other paper rockets. We did the paper rocket in 3 rounds. My one made it in two rounds which was round 1 and 3. That was my story and of what I have done for today in inquiry.

Balloon Measurements

Today I have been working with Sanujan, Zane and Affonso on our balloon experiment for today. we had created our own bar graph because it doesn't show the correct answer on the google spreadsheet. The farthest one attempt was on Attempt 1 and Attempt 2 which made it about 2/3 away to the end. The lest ones that went onto 1/2 was Attempt 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 which was a lot of the shortest attempts we have seen. In between was attempt 5 which was 1/3 away.

Inference sheet

L.I to identify features of an information text

Today I have been working on my reading on my Inference sheet for today. We had to read the book "Rocket club" and infer the book into a clear sentence way by doing the book page to page.

L.I to Understand units of measurements

Today I have been working on our measurements of travel for today. We had to map five countries and see how far away the countries are by using the same thing we did in week 7 which was the Millimeters, Centimeters, Meters, Kilometers and also our thumbs but that was to hard to measure from Panmure Bridge School to the other parts of the countries

Rockets (Lesson 2)

Today I have been working with Sanujan and Joshua W on our lesson 2 of our rockets for today. We have been doing a rocket game called (Rocket lab) to find 3 rocket ships we can have for our lesson 2 slide. But we have copied 3 rockets which was the V2, The Scout D1 and the Atlas V. These were the 3 rocket ships that we have copied on Rocket Lab for today.

L.I to identify structures and language features of an information text

Today I have been working on my Reports writing frame and have decided to do this all about me. I have done this by adding different thing about me. I have added My Brother and Sister, My Mum and Dad, My favourite pets, My favourite friends, My favourite food and also my favourite hobbies.

Blog commenting

Today I have written 3 blog comments for today. I have written one to Ta'ani, Ofa and Zane on how amazing their piece of work is.

Blast from the past

Text title: Blast from the past
Author: By David Hill

I think the main idea of this text is to see how long they have been creating rockets
One example of a supporting detail is that the Chinese used basic rockets 900 years ago
Another example of a supporting detail is that used bamboo tubes and gunpowder to make a rocket
It is clear that the main idea is about how long they have been creating rockets

Because
Rockets have been ancient and have been historical wars from 900 years ago.
L.I to infer information in a text

Today I have been reading the book (Blast from the past) and have retold the story with the Main idea summary frame. I had to write down what the main idea of what we were learning about and also write down some examples about the story.

I haven't found anything difficult and this task was really easy.

Today I have been working with Zane on our must do task for today. I have been working with Zane on the classroom measurement and we had to measure 10 things in our class. Me and Zane did 5 things each and we just finished this task in just 1 day. We also had to use mm, cm, M, km and thumbs for this task for today.

I haven't found anything difficult and I had fun working on the classroom measurements.
